Sean Mahan: Mario Painter

Have you heard of the famous and talented painter Sean Mahan from Florida? To hone his craft, Sean likes to practice with the obsolete Super Nintendo game MARIO PAINT. He recently honored me by painting my portrait:

As if this wasn't honor enough, he also decided to compose, in Mario Paint, a cover of my song Come Pick Me Up. It will join such greats as "The Star Song" and "The Flower Song" in the annals of Mario Paint history.

And if THIS wasn't enough, he also composed a human cover of the same song under his musical name Verde. Sean is the most active artist on Spaceship Earth and that's a fact. If you want to thank him for his contribution, you should send him 10 lbs of any kind of vegan meat product (fried), 10 brownies/cookies/cakes/etc. and/or a gift certificate to a buffet (Ethiopian or Indian).

Mummy Thumb: Epilogue

My thumb is fixed. It just has a tiny scab and 75% of its nerves at the tip. All that hoopla and not even a stump to prove it! That is fine by me.

Real art and commentary forthcoming. I'm in what I like to call "The Young Adult's Rut," which I hear is something that happens after one turns 26, or any age. Also known as, "The Young Rut," "The Pre- or Post-Teenage Rut," "The 30-something Rut," "The Mid-Life Rut," "The Menopausal Rut," "The Grandma Rut," "The Senile Rut," "The Dead Rut."

Get out of that rut, son! People are counting on you!

More soon.

Gruesome Truth of the Mummy Thumb

Squeamish, beware! What you see may appall you!

To celebrate Halloween, I decided to festively cut off part of my thumb chopping veggies at work on Wednesday. I guess it's going to heal pretty well but my left thumb will always be a little special. I did cut a little piece of it clean off, but it was not found on the cutting board and did not end up in someone's salad, so we can only assume it's somewhere safe.

All of which led me to think about my material body and its constituent parts. After temporarily freaking out and worrying about being disfigured for the rest of my life, I gained perspective by thinking about what percentage of my body remained (99.9%). I have my limbs, eyes, ears, nose. I have not stepped on a landmine or been hit by shrapnel. I quickly realized that I needed to shut up about it.

"Canoe Believe It?"

Jeff's New Canoe - Turns out the James River, though non-threatening to the wader, contains many perilous Rocks and Small Rapids which challenge the amateur canoeist. But do you remember that one time that me and Megan Downey were paddling down the glassy Grand River and we capsized the canoe trying to save my lucky hat?
Athens, GA - While job-hunting and trying to find my Purpose here in Richmond, I can't help but dream of living in the Orange Twin Village. I would hang out with Theo and Laura, feed the chickens, and skim the debris out of the swimmin hole. What a life! The more time I spend on the computer, the more I crave a agrarian lifestyle.
Universe - This is a really neat blog by Claire L. Evans.
I Wish I Were - an organic farmer + llamas + wool-making; the principal of a hippy elementary school; a professor at a womens college.
