Plan-It-X Records is a record label from Bloomington, Indiana that is all about making music and radical ideas accessible to people.
Last year, Plan-It-X celebrated its 10th birthday with a huge, weekend-long, freakin' crazy party. Over thirty bands played at multiple venues, and Bloomington was taken over by more than 600 attendees from all over the country. Thousands of dollars were raised for two organizations in Bloomington, the Midwest Pages to Prisoners Project and Mother Hubbard's Cupboard.
That was so fun that some genius suggested that we take the tour on the road, bringing a fest all around the country to some of the kids who couldn't make it to Bloomington last summer. We got a school bus 30 or so of our friends in 9 bands, a radical book distro, and lots of promoters all around the Midwest, South and Northeast to set up music events and also events showcasing local activism, skillshares, radical walking tours, independent film showings, barbeques, water balloon fights, and such like. The idea is to celebrate doing things yourself, creating an alternative to mainstream culture, and making connections in one's community and across the country. It seems like it's going to pretty fun and definitely a spectacle to behold.
Also, this tour will be a benefit for the Center for Change, a project we've been working on conceputually in Bloomington that will eventually be an art/show/community & living space that will hopefully someday help up the punks and smash the state.
